Input from college and travel baseball coaches will help determine what the CURVE Test measures and inform the development of its Brain, Body, Ball and overall CURVE Scores.

ORLANDO, FL. Aug 18th 2026 — CURVE Sports and Prometric® today announced the next phase of their partnership: a nationwide effort to engage college and travel baseball coaches in the continued development and validation of the CURVE Test.
Through a new coach survey, CURVE Sports and Prometric are asking the people who evaluate and develop baseball players every day to help determine which performance measures are most meaningful, which components of the existing CURVE Test are most useful, and what information coaches trust when making player-development and recruiting decisions.
The premise is simple: college and travel baseball coaches are the subject-matter experts.
College coaches evaluate talent for a living and understand what separates an athlete who is ready to compete at the collegiate level from one who is not. Travel baseball coaches see player development firsthand and understand which physical, cognitive and baseball-specific abilities translate to performance over time.
Their collective expertise will help ensure the CURVE Test measures what matters—not simply what is easiest to measure.
“You don’t create a gold standard by declaring one. You earn it by listening to the experts, testing every component and proving that the results are consistent and useful,” said Sandy Ogg, Chief Executive Officer of CURVE Sports. “Coaches make these evaluations every day. If we want the CURVE Test to become a trusted standard across baseball, it has to be built with them, not simply presented to them.”

From Coach Expertise to a Validated Scoring Model
The survey asks coaches to evaluate the relevance and usefulness of different CURVE Test components and identify the information they believe matters most when assessing an athlete’s current ability, development potential and readiness for college baseball.
The findings will inform the next stage of the CURVE Test’s development:
Coach input will help establish the relative importance of potential test components.
Each component will be field-tested and statistically evaluated for consistency, relevance and validity.
Coach feedback and athlete testing data will inform the weighting of individual components.
Those weightings will contribute to the development of the Brain, Body and Ball category scores.
The three category scores will ultimately inform a composite CURVE Score designed to provide a complete, standardized view of the athlete.
Coach feedback will inform—but will not solely determine—the final scoring system. Prometric and CURVE Sports will combine subject-matter expertise with athlete data, assessment science and statistical analysis before finalizing the weighting model.
“A rigorous assessment begins by clearly defining what matters, and that requires direct input from subject-matter experts,” said Stuart Udell, Chief Executive Officer of Prometric. “Coach feedback will help establish the foundation of the assessment model. From there, each component must be tested to determine whether it reliably measures the intended ability and meaningfully contributes to the overall evaluation.”

Measuring the Complete Baseball Athlete
The CURVE Test is designed to evaluate the complete athlete across three connected dimensions:
BALL: Baseball-specific performance, including hitting and pitching metrics.
BODY: Speed, strength, agility, movement and power.
BRAIN: Reaction time, focus, decision-making and visual-cognitive performance.
Current CURVE testing capabilities incorporate technologies from Trackman, Proteus Motion, Universal Speed Rating and Senaptec. These technologies provide objective measurements across baseball skill, physical performance and cognitive ability.
Rather than treating testing as a one-time combine, CURVE Sports is building a system that connects evaluation to long-term development and recruiting. Athletes can establish a verified baseline, train against identified development priorities, retest to demonstrate progress and share trusted performance information with coaches and recruiters.
This supports CURVE Sports’ Test. Train. Compete. Recruit. development philosophy.

Making Standardized Testing More Accessible
The CURVE Test can be built into an organization’s existing facility or administered at tryouts, showcases and player-evaluation events. This delivery model makes standardized testing available in the environments where athletes already train and compete, while maintaining consistent testing protocols and verified data.
For organizations, the Test provides a common framework for evaluating players across teams, age groups and locations.
For coaches, it creates actionable information that can support individualized training and long-term player development.
For athletes and families, it provides greater clarity around current performance, development priorities and progress.
For college coaches and recruiters, it offers an additional layer of objective, comparable information to complement live evaluation, video and traditional baseball statistics.
“Our goal is to create a common language for player development and recruiting,” Ogg added. “When coaches help establish what matters, Prometric helps us test it rigorously and athletes complete the same standardized assessment, the resulting data has the potential to be trusted throughout the game.”
Baseball Coaches: Help Build the Test
